Quilts

Handmade quilts have been a favorite in households for centuries. Women of the Pennsylvania Dutch Country have been creating exquisite quilted masterpieces since the mid-1800′s (and some believe even earlier). They not only serve a practical, functional purpose, but serve as a form of entertainment as well.

Many times groups of women gather for a quilting bee. The bee is a form of socialization and relaxation for these women. It’s a time when they can get together to visit and “catch up” with one another.

Carol Sensenig has been gathering donations all year for this auction. She is very careful to select quilts that will appeal to our bidders. Quilts are on display for viewing starting Thursday, March 15th in the North Hall at 4:00 pm. The auction will be held on Saturday, March 17 starting at 11:00 am.

Quilt donations or financial donations to “sponsor” quilt purchases for the auction can be made by contacting Carol at 717.270.0467 or contact the YFC office at 717.272.5106 x304. The quilts pictured above are from a previous year’s auction. Some quilts offered this year will be pictured below closer to the auction date.
